Pamela Druhen

Pamela Druhen has been working in fabric and thread creating representational landscapes and florals since 1996. Normally considered fiber art, Pamela's "Threadscapes" are paintings in every sense of the word. She uses the fiber medium to explore the relationships between light, depth, color and texture in the natural world. Her work is defined by the four seasons as she experiences them in Vermont. The viewer begins from a position standing on the edge of each piece, ready to step in and explore the landscape and beyond.
Pamela uses quilting and heavy threadwork as design elements which enhance the texture, movement and depth of each piece. Newer work incorporates silk or procion dyes which she applies with a brush on silk or cotton to create the image which she then embroiders with rayon or trilobal polyester threadwork and highly detailed quilting. "Among the most notable pieces exhibited are Pamela Druhen's intricate quilted landscapes..."(Anne Galloway, Vermont Sunday Magazine, October 2006). "Druhen's "Valley View" is a panoramic view of a Green Mountain valley transformed by winter. She utilizes a range of techniques to render a lively, white-on-white picture plane with glistening details. Druhen's "Going Home" is a more intricate image - a homestead enclosed by a canopy of trees. Its broad border encompasses waves of yellow, sienna and green that capture autumnal light filtering through skillfully embroidered trees." (Mark Awodey, Seven Days, October 4-11, 2006)
Pamela has been competing on the national level since 2001 and internationally since 2002. As an emerging artist, she continues to spend most of her time in the studio creating new work. When not in the studio she can be found teaching, lecturing, exhibiting and promoting her work or traveling with her husband Claude, photographing new vistas to share with us.
